Since 1993, the Keystone Foundation has been working with indigenous communities in the Nilgiris to promote livelihood security, sustainable agriculture, land rights, community health and development, and biodiversity conservation. Its efforts focus on integrating ecological preservation with the well-being of local communities.
The Nilgiris Foundation (TNF) is a non-profit organisation established to support and expand the eco-development initiatives of its sister organisation, the Keystone Foundation. TNF fosters global movements and promotes sustainable development efforts in the Nilgiris, amplifying the impact of Keystone Foundation's work in the region.

Clean Coonoor is an initiative that works on projects that the resident community can execute in coordination with the civic authorities. The focus of the project is to provide clean water and air and efficient systems for waste disposal. Communities assist in restoring the local environment and infrastructure, including maintaining culverts and drains, restoring grasslands and marshlands, and solid waste management.
The Ooty Literature Festival is an annual two-day event celebrating Ooty’s rich culture, literature, art, music, and history. The festival also goes beyond literary discussion to highlight the ecological importance of the Nilgiris Biosphere and its diverse communities.


The Nilgiris Earth Festival (TNEF), formerly known as the “Nilgiris Wild Foods Festival,” is an annual five-day celebration that showcases the region’s organically grown native foods while highlighting its rich cultural heritage and ecological significance in the Nilgiris.
